Well, here's what I know...
The church I've been assigned to works with alongside people in a community in the South of Durban. Some of this work includes....
A broad based community ministry which has a range of services including HIV support groups, schools work, children's programmes, skills programmes and feeding programmes in one of the townships.
A pregnancy resource centre which
- provides accommodation, support and training for pregnant women in need.
- offers confidential counselling to young women facing unplanned pregnancies
- raises awareness through education about HIV/AIDS, pregnancy, abortion and sexual abuse.
A day care centre providing creche facilities for 1-5 year olds in one of the townships.
How we might be involved:
- work with children
- caring for HIV+ people
- serving at the community centre
- Kidz Club for children in the township we're based in.
Again it all could change, but we reckon the Kidz Club is quite likely!
