a lot of that money goes to fund the work of the projects we will be helping to start up.
A few reasons to do this...
1. Brits and Dutch are some of the folks who messed up South Africa in the first place. There is something in us going out there sacrificially and serving those who are changing history, and helping build a new South Africa after years of Apartheid.
2. Both of us have felt a real calling to do this - it was not a decision we have taken lightly.
3. We cannot bring transformation in 2 weeks. That's not what this is about. It's about providing that extra manpower to get new things started that will be continued. We're working alongside churches and attached community projects supporting and serving them as several of the Durban pastors spoke about in that video.
4. We are there to learn too. There is much we can learn from our South African brothers and sisters - which are lessons we can bring home to where we continue to serve in our home countries.
In July 2009, we're making the journey from Scotland to Durban, South Africa with around 351 other people from UK, Netherlands and South Africa to serve on community projects as part of Soul in the City Durban. We're not sure how we're going to get there, how we're going to fund it, what's going to happen and we're both terrified! Come read of our adventures here...(there's sure to be plenty)

seems to me a lot of money is being spent just getting two people from Scotland to Durban that could greatly help others?
it is obvious you hearts are in the right place - maybe you are also?
